Hey, this is our call
The mission of St. Junipero Serra House of Formation is to help men discern and respond generously to the call of Jesus Christ to the diocesan priesthood, specifically for the people of the Diocese of San Bernardino. In the spirit of our patron, St. Junipero Serra, we seek to form missionary disciples who are ready to “go forward” with courage, bringing the Gospel to the growing and diverse communities of the Diocese.
We strive to foster seminarians who are spiritually rooted, intellectually prepared, pastorally sensitive, and humanly mature; men who can live celibacy with joy, lead with humility, and proclaim the faith clearly and compassionately. Everything in the house, from the chapel to the classroom to the dining room, is ordered toward this one purpose: forming priests after the Heart of the Good Shepherd for our local Church.

When I first arrived, I carried a lot of wounds, questions about my worth, my past, and whether I was really capable of becoming the man God was calling me to be. At Serra House I encountered a community that did not expect perfection, but honesty. Through spiritual direction, confession, and the daily rhythm of prayer, I began to experience God not as a distant judge, but as a Father who patiently walks with me, step by step, in my weakness and in my hope.

Serra House has also been a school of healing. Through the support of formators, therapists, and my brother seminarians, I’ve been able to face parts of my life I used to hide. The environment of trust and prayer has given me the courage to forgive, to ask forgiveness, and to let go of patterns that were hurting me and others. Little by little, I feel more integrated, more at peace in my own skin, more capable of real friendship, and more free to love.

Here at Serra House, the structure of intellectual formation has given me more than information; it has given me a way of thinking as a disciple. In the classroom and in study, I am not just “passing courses,” but learning how to seek truth, ask deeper questions, and see the world through the light of the Gospel.
